What is the normal blood sugar level?
According to Dr. Zubaidi Ahmad, normal read of blood sugar level for an adult (not pregnant) must be lower than 5.5mmol/L when fasting. If the test is done in 2 hours after one's had a meal, the read must be lower than 7.0mmol/L. After 3 hours, the read must be not higher than 6.0mmol/L.
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) need to be done to test your blood sugar level. In this test, you will be asked to drink an amount of glucose drink. Your blood sugar level will be recorded before and after you have the glucose drink. This table below shows the indicator of blood sugar reading for OGTT test:
If you have an abnormal read, you will be asked to repeat the test as advised by your doctor. Regular screening is important for you to detect & control diabetes in you.
